THE VISIBLE CITY
2022
This project was developed in collaboration with Axor – Hansgrohe. The pavilion draws primary inspiration from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, specifically the city of Armilla—a skeletal urban landscape composed of exposed pipes, where its inhabitants find pleasure in bathing.
The concept of the “naked bathroom” is also informed by more contemporary and postmodern references, including Philips Design’s Microbial Home and Joe Colombo’s Total Furnishing Unit. These influences converge to explore the idea of compact living not as a constraint, but as a form of luxury.
Constructed using standard pipes and joints, the pavilion features a modular chromatic framework. It is later outfitted with Axor’s existing product line and plumbing fixtures, creating a fully functional, plug-and-play bathing environment designed for adaptability and integration within various living contexts.
