SELF SUPPORTING DECORATIVE FACADE

2019

Building on the development of bronze tiles, the reproduction of Mayan glyphs, and extensive experimentation with surface textures, this structure addresses the technical challenge of installing decorative tiles in a stable and durable manner.

Grounded in an understanding of the sand-mould metal casting process and its inherent limitations, the design evolved into a modular system composed of five distinct components. These elements were engineered to function as a unified assembly, allowing for both structural integrity and aesthetic cohesion.

Each component is stacked and secured using bolts, forming a robust framework. The system’s ability to articulate—through subtle corrugation or directional shifts—adds further stability and adaptability, ensuring the structure remains secure under various conditions.
